Prevention of Trafficking Project

Supported by the British Asian Trust, CLPOA's Prevention of Trafficking Project empowers adolescents and youth (12–18 years) to reduce vulnerabilities that lead to trafficking, child marriage, and exploitation. Implemented across 30 Gram Sansads under Kadambagachi Gram Panchayat, Barasat-I Block, North 24 Parganas, the project strengthens community-based child protection systems through youth leadership, community participation, and convergence with local institutions.


Key Achievements

  • 369 weekly sessions conducted with Children Collectives on child protection.
  • 220 vulnerable children identified and tracked; 576 vulnerable individuals linked to livelihood opportunities.
  • 36 school dropouts re-enrolled and 42 irregular students retained through counselling.
  • 64 youth leadership meetings and 64 community sensitization programmes conducted on child protection, gender equality, safe migration, and digital safety.
  • 124 Parent Leader meetings and monthly VLCPC meetings held across all 30 Gram Sansads.
  • 132 youth participated in a Career Mela with 7 skill development institutes.
  • Vulnerability mapping completed for all 30 Gram Sansads, with Village Level Action Plans (VLAPs) developed.

The project strengthened community ownership of child protection by including Youth Collective members in VLCPCs across 23 Gram Sansads, preventing child marriages, rescuing vulnerable children, facilitating school re-enrolment, improving access to government services, and mobilizing communities to address local child protection issues through collective action.


CHILDLINE:

CHILDLINE - the national, toll free, 24 hours emergency telephone helpline for children in need of care and protection completed another eventful year. This year, CHILDLINE Kolkata intervened 1024 cases of various nature like shelter, medical, repatriation, rescue, missing, child abuse, child trafficking, child marriage etc. CLPOA continues to function as Nodal Organization of Kolkata CHILDLINE since 1999.

Activities :

  • Held public awareness programmes in 18 ICDS Centers located at South and North Kolkata areas
  • Organized 24 School awareness programmes to orient children on 1098 in Government aided/Government Sponsored Schools
  • Conducted 27 Open Houses to orient local people on 1098 in Kolkata
  • Held Child Friendly meeting with children at Sealdah Railway Station
  • Awareness during all big festivals like Durga Puja, Id, Christmas day etc.
