The project, funded by Smile Foundation India and titled Smile Twin e-learning Programme (STeP), was an effort towards creating dignified livelihood opportunities for youth coming from marginalized section of society. STeP was primarily designed to offer job–oriented skills to youth living in urban slums and peripheral rural areas and enhanced their prospect of employment in fast expanding sectors like retails outlets, BPOs, hospitality, marketing etc.
With the objective of empowering marginalized youth of Kamarhati, North 24 Parganas and Howrah for attaining sustainable and dignified livelihood, CLPOA initiated this project in 2018. Two training centres were set up both at Howrah and Kamarhati to prepare urban youth with skill-based training and placed them in BPO, Sales, Marketing, Hospitality, Retail sectors. Mobilization camp, miking, community meeting with local youth groups were held to motivate and enroll youth in the centre, quarterly guardian’s meeting was conducted to share the progress of their wards, purpose of the training and placement issues, career counselling sessions were organized with an opportunity to interact with hiring authorities. Coverage -trained 737 and placed 399 students during the project period.
